fantastic! Drawn from imagination or from a reference?

Lady Astor: Sir, if you were my husband, I would poison your drink.
Churchill: Madam, if you were my wife I would drink it.
Lady Astor: Sir, you are drunk.
Churchill: Yes madam, and you are ugly, but tomorrow I shall be sober.

I have the same question as the Teapot. He's quite cute... lol & I'm totally jealous of his coat! ;3

Yay for graphite!

Thanks! His face is mine (based on my other versions of him, that is) but the body was from a model from an ad. :D
:iconlmrourke:
 Yes, I use models for nearly all of my portraits. It makes it easier for me to get the detail I want in the shading and pose. I try not to use celebrities unless that's my intent (like the LoTR drawings) but look more for facial features that in my imagination resemble the characters to me. I then go from there blending the features of the model with the model I have in my head.

To tell you the truth, I'm sometimes guilty of doing the same thing. lol I use my bf as a quick model for most of my male figures, but it gets a tad harder when you're drawing anthros.

Personally, I don't think there's anything to feel guilty about  I like realism and that's what I draw so I think it would be awfully hard to draw realistically without a model. I would love to have people pose for me but as that's not going to happen anytime soon, I use models where I can find them. Maybe when I get the opportunity to go back to school and take some figure drawing and illustration classes I won't have to rely so heavily on photos.
:iconsera-keen:
Yeah, I hear you there! =^_^= I'm in school right now... visual design major. But I haven't taken an anatomy class yet because lithography keeps getting in the way. The more you work on your own though, the more you can impress your teacher/classmates when you finally do get there! You've got talent and motivation, it should work out fine for you.

I find it helps me (when i'm not too lazy to do it) to just go out and try to draw gestural figures of ppl in a public place. It helps ya yet the general movement of the body down, and it's more challenging than a photo.

Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to return to school for a while (my youngest is 6) Heck, I'll be lucky to get some quiet, personal time by the time I'm 60! But I thank you for your advice about drawing people in public. I've yet to do it but I'm defintely going to give it a go (when I work up the nerve!)
